Spellings

Spelling tests will be on Monday mornings each week and the children will have numerous opportunities to learn and explore their new spelling pattern each week before the spelling lists are issued. Your support with regular learning of these is appreciated.

Term 2 Spelling Lists

Week 1: Please write a short story containing as many of your spelling words (ending in able) as possible.

Week 2:  Please look up the dictionary definitions for each of your words (ending in able).

Week 3: Please complete a graffiti wall style piece of art containing repeats of your spelling words. You may use different fonts, colours, sizes of letter etc.

Week 4: Please practise the spelling pattern in a method of your choice but then complete the tree mind maps to explore other root word families.

Root word tree activity sheet

Week 5: Please write each of your spelling words for this week in a Y6 level sentence - detail and higher level punctuation please!

Week 6: Please practise each word and draw an illustration which shows you understand the meaning of each of your words from this week.

Maths Homework

Homework will be added each week and will relate to the topic of maths currently being studied in school. Answers will also be provided so that you are able to check your child's homework when it is completed. This should then be handed in to your child's class teacher, where it will be initialled and recorded.

Term 2 - Week 5 - Adding and Subtracting Fractions with different denominators - due 11.12.19 (answers included in document).

In class, the children have been practising their times tables daily. This has involved completing a strip of 40 mixed times tables in 2 minutes. We have noticed a huge improvement in the children's speed and accuracy in the last couple of weeks and feel this method is hugely benefiting them. If your child would like to practise these at home, we have provided the strips below:

Year 5 & 6 Statutory Spellings

During Year 6, children will be assessed on their writing. Part of this assessment involves spelling and the ability to correctly spell many of the Year 5 and 6 Statutory word lists independently in their work.  A list has been attached below for your reference:
